Icons of rural Nebraska

Left: An agglomeration of windmills can be found at the Second Wind Ranch near Comstock, home of the Comstock Music Festival. Throughout the State these traditional windmills still vastly outnumber modern wind turbines. Nebraska gets it's electricity from public power districts that haven't been eligible for the Federal tax credits that make this source of electricity attractive. Another problem is that many of the best locations for wind turbines are a considerable distance from the cities in the Eastern part of the State, where most of the population lives.

Middle: Crosswind Merchantile Store near Comstock.

Right: Sign outside of the Wigwam Cafe in Wahoo. Since 1996 Wahoo has been the official home office of the David Letterman Show's Top Ten list.
